Jon's Wedding

I had to put a picture up from Jon's wedding on July 18, 2009. I love having a picture of all of us together. There are so few. I was going through photos last night on my computer and the only photo that is even remotely close to this one was taken 8 years ago: I know that not everyone is in this older photo. This photo was taken right after my freshman year of college. I had just met Nicole in Duluth so she wasn't in the cities yet, Jon hadn't met his future wife Katy, I hardly saw Brandon, I'd never met Josh, Tom was in Florida, etc. However, it is still funny to look back at a group picture to see how we have all changed and still remained friends. Congratulations Jon & Katy!

Alicia L. Glaser, Esq.

I am not supposed to call myself esquire but I think I can be forgiven a little ettiquette faux paux on this occassion: I am now officially an attorney! I am beyond elated. I can now be officially called such fancy things as counselor, attorney, lawyer and esquire. I love it. I know you are asking yourselves, "Wait, I thought she took the bar exam a year ago! What happened?" Well, here in New York it takes a long time to get your bar exam results back. Then you have the following: Fill out application and get affidavits from past legal employers Take a class on ethics before admission (if you are in Brooklyn) Have an in-person character and fitness interview with a member of the bar. Attend an admissions ceremony These seem like reletively short and easy steps but between each of them was time, lots of time. Part of the time lost was my fault, part of it was the time it took to get into a class and then the time to get into a ceremony. Regardless, the long, arduous j...

Quote of the Day

In regards to the government's broadband stimulus package, which was designed to pump money into broadband development in order to create jobs and help the economy, Thomas Hazlett wrote for the Financial Times: And don’t forget this stimulation: emergency spending projects are to Congress what free beer is to a college fraternity party. That made me giggle and I thought my Dad would appreciate that bit of humor. Perhaps, someone else reading this blog will too. I think I am just a sucker for humor in op-ed pieces. Will the Cats Ever Get Along?

It sure doesn't feel like it. They generally keep to their own rooms. In this picture, Brian thought it would be a good idea to hold them both at the same time. The picture does not convey the deep, guttural growls emanating from both cats. You can, however, see the beginnings of cuts on Brian's arm due to Livia's back legs. She is fierce. Also, both of their ears are back and they are glaring each other down. They were not happy cats. Brian learned his lesson. We are going to let the cats come to like each other whenever they choose.

Leela in Her Usual Spot

I snapped this great picture of Leela sitting in her usual spot on the bed. Usually she runs away to fast to get a decent picture but I managed to get her to look at me on command. I've discovered that she responds to "kitty kitty kitty" and kissy noises. Someone must have had her trained once upon a time.

Awesome Things We Did When Nicole was Here

It has been a month since Nicole was here but I still remember how awesome it was. Unfortunately, I did not get very good pictures of the things we did but I will try to list them out: Went to the Natural History Museum and saw the dinosaurs. Ate popovers at the Popover Cafe Nicole and I grabbed a beer at an awesome pub called The Dead Poet Went to the Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors Convention where we saw Tom Savini, the famous horror makeup artist: Then, Nicole and I walked around the booths at the convention. At one table Nicole actually shook the hand of the man who played Sheriff McClelland in Night of the Living Dead . In the movie he spoke the famous line, "Yeah, they're dead. They're all messed up." Next, while wandering around looking for the room with the previews of new movies, we stumbled into a viewing room showing Dead Snow , a Norwegian zombie film. It was awesome. Basic plot: nazi zombies attack group of young, hip extreme sports enthusiasts ...

A Tomato Grows in Brooklyn

Not just day lilies are growing in my garden. The tomatoes are starting to come in. I am flabbergasted. I honestly believed the rats would find them before me. I don't even care if I get to eat them. I am just proud of me for not killing them. If they do last long enough I think I am going to go with my Dad's advice: ripen them off the vine to save them from the vermin. I am waiting impatiently for just a touch of color and then inside they go!

Day Lilies!

I actually grew a day lily! I was so happy to see them bloom that I had to snap a picture to share! I am beginning to think that my thumb may actually be green. Who would have thought? Not I.

My Favorite Things: Part 1

I have wanted to post about our apartment for a while but I have been lazy. It isn't just the photo taking, it is also the cleaning so that you don't have to see pictures of my dirty dishes. So, I waited and now Brian has posted a great walk-through of the apartment on his blog (click here ). So, in order to avoid overlap, I plan to post my favorite things about the apartment in a series. So, let's begin! Here you see our art wall: We have too much art. We actually had to put a lot of it in storage. Since we like our new wall colors so much, we decided to try putting all of our little art on one wall. Above you can see postcards, photographs and prints. My favorites are the three on the right: a signed print of Brian's favorite cartoon by Randall Monroe, a drawing of a martini-carrying stick figure and a stylized postcard of the subway. This picture shows our dining table: I love that we can actually sit in each chair without moving the table. Downstairs, it...

New Job!

I am very excited to announce that I have a new job! Soon, I will be starting work at New York Law School's Advanced Communications Law & Policy Institute (ACLP). The ACLP is a think tank at my law school which "focuses on identifying and analyzing key public policy and regulatory issues facing the advanced communications sector" (click here for their website). My title will be Telecom Policy Analyst, which mainly involves research and writing. I am very excited to be working in a field I enjoy: telecommunications law. Just so you know, telecom law includes topics such as broadband, wireless, telephony and cable. Besides working in a field I love, I also get to work from home! The cats will be very pleased to have company. It is a very happy day!

Livia Likes to Hide

I am lazy sometimes. Sometimes I do not close my dresser drawers. The other day, when I finally went around picking up after myself, I went to close the drawer and there was a surprise. Livia had climbed up into the drawer to nap. She would not exit the drawer even if I tried to shut it on her. Sigh.
