Leela Loves Spring

This cat loves Spring.  Now she can sit in the window and look out on her old territory.

Pictures of Leela

Because it has been a while since I have subjected you to unnecessary pictures of my cat.  Here she is with what I imagine are her thoughts when she jumps up on my desk: "Where are my treats, Treat Giver?!" "Scratch the top of my head now please.  Then give me treats." "I am bored with you now.  I think I will go bother Brian over there and see if he will give me treats."

Unnecessary Photo of my Cat

Leela is becoming a normal desk accessory for me.

Diabolical Cats

I think I caught a cold due to lack of sleep. The cats have been conspiring to wake me up pre-dawn for their breakfast. For months, I have been sleeping peacefully with Livia out in the livingroom because the bedroom is Leela's territory. Leela, however, has learned that if she lets Livia in the bedroom, she gets breakfast early. So now I have Livia back to her old tricks in the morning, eating my hair and clawing my skin to wake me up. She even digs under the blankets to expose skin to claw. She is a diabolical cat. When I, begrudgingly, give in and get them breakfast, I promptly go back to bed. Even though I believe I will now be left alone, this is never the case. Due to one morning of confusion where Brian and I accidentally gave them breakfast twice, they persist in waking me up, trying to trick me into feeding them again. This results in very little sleep for me. Brian was kind enough to set me up with a spray bottle last night and I got much better sleep. The secon...

Merry Christmas from Leela

Leela wishes you all a Merry Christmas. This is the cat that got herself stuck under the oven. Right before I took this picture, she tried to eat the Christmas lights behind her. She is not a smart cat but she makes up for it by being cute.

More Pictures of my Cats

No reason to post pictures of the cats. You will just have to deal with my obsession.

Brian and Leela

This is becoming a regular sight in the apartment. Brian enjoys a good cat nap. So does Leela. They get along swimmingly.

Livia Thinks the LoveSac is Her Giant Cat Bed

Livia Doesn't Want Me to Scrapbook

She seems to think that my cruise souvenirs make a better bed then a scrapbook.

Will the Cats Ever Get Along?

It sure doesn't feel like it. They generally keep to their own rooms. In this picture, Brian thought it would be a good idea to hold them both at the same time. The picture does not convey the deep, guttural growls emanating from both cats. You can, however, see the beginnings of cuts on Brian's arm due to Livia's back legs. She is fierce. Also, both of their ears are back and they are glaring each other down. They were not happy cats. Brian learned his lesson. We are going to let the cats come to like each other whenever they choose.

Leela in Her Usual Spot

I snapped this great picture of Leela sitting in her usual spot on the bed. Usually she runs away to fast to get a decent picture but I managed to get her to look at me on command. I've discovered that she responds to "kitty kitty kitty" and kissy noises. Someone must have had her trained once upon a time.

Livia Likes to Hide

I am lazy sometimes. Sometimes I do not close my dresser drawers. The other day, when I finally went around picking up after myself, I went to close the drawer and there was a surprise. Livia had climbed up into the drawer to nap. She would not exit the drawer even if I tried to shut it on her. Sigh.

Leela is cute

Leela spends all day sleeping and being cute. She is definitely not as active as Livia, who runs circles around the apartment and explores every surface and corner. Leela only cares about a comfy spot to nap all day.

Livia Loves the New Apartment

Livia loves the new place and seems happier than ever.  However, Leela cowers under the bed.  Maybe that is why Livia is happy.  I wonder if the cats will ever get along. We are still unpacking.  More posts to come!

More Feral Cats!

These are our new backyard friends. The mom and kitten live in the construction site. They are cute and I had to share. Yes, that is our Tupperware and we did put out food for them. No, we are not adopting them. We can't even get close to them. We watch them from afar.

Meet Leela

We have decided to call her Leela, after Turanga Leela of Futurama. I will admit, I liked other names but in the end I gave the name picking authority to Brian. It was his turn to name a cat and Brian really likes Futurama. Plus, Turanga Leela was an orphan in the show and our cat is an orphan, so it is fitting. We still call her Oreo occasionally by accident. In other Leela news, she likes to climb our window bars, as you can see in the above picture. She climbs up surprisingly fast but then whines because the descent is not as easy. Leela had a big moment yesterday. Brian was taking out some trash and Leela saw the open door and ran for it. When she got to the hall, she stopped, looked at Brian and marched right back into the apartment. She doesn't want to run away anymore! She seems to realize what a sweet deal she's got here with the free food and warm bed. We're lucky she's accepted us. She is a very sweet and loving cat.

Cat Rescue

As Brian and I have been spending lots of time in the garden this spring, we have seen more and more of our friend Oreo. Oreo comes running the second we open the backdoor and seems very hungry and skinny. When we feed her she gives us a lot of attention, purring and sitting on our laps. She has melted our hearts. Brian and I discussed saving Oreo from the outdoors and decided that we did not like the thought of anything happening to this sweet cat. We decided to bring Oreo inside to live with us. Brian and I have kept an eye out to see where she comes from. We went outside at strange hours to see if she was around. Oreo doesn't wear a collar and always comes running when we open the door. We decided that anyone who has this cat is not giving her the love she needs. So, Brian took her to the vet two days ago. She got her shots and is a perfectly healthy, 3-5 year old female. After the check-up, Brian brought her home. She didn't claw or put up much of a fight. She ...

Backyard Cats!

Above is yet another cat that is frequenting our backyard. We are calling him Nero. He is pretty scared of us but likes to sit and watch us from a distance. Nero seems fitting since he has such fiery orange eyes. Oreo is still doing well, aggravating Livia every chance he gets. Here he is under Livia's favorite window taking a nap. You can just barely make our Livia in the window glaring at him. Here is a good picture I got of Brian and Oreo: Since Oreo seems to hang around every time we go outside it is almost as if we have multiple cats. We have our indoor Livia and our outdoor Oreo. Hopefully the other feral cats will continue to keep their distance so that we do not end up caring for the whole neighborhood!

Livia is Still Cute

She is still cute and she is a thousand times better than any fish.

Livia Doesn't Let Brian Work

Livia's new thing is to sit on top of whatever Brian is working on at his desk. Here, he was trying to correct tests. She jumped up on his desk and sat herself right on top of the papers. Despicable. She also finds pens offensive. If they are on a desk she likes to knock them onto the floor. I don't know where any of my pens are anymore. Crazy cat.
