Birthday Want List

I thought I would post a list of things I want for my birthday. This is just in case anyone needs ideas. I am excited to celebrate my 27th birthday though I do not know what I will do on that day. If anyone has ideas, feel free to post them. I am never good at coming up with clever things to do. Knowing me, I will end up on my couch watching Evil Dead 2 (actually that sounds like a lot of fun right now). Here is my list: Books: Bridal Bargains , 8 th Edition by Denise Fields You Do Not Talk about Fight Club: I Am Jack’s Completely Unauthorized Essay Collection edited by Read Mercer Schuchardt A good Las Vegas travel guide with lots of historic facts, if possible. Calorie King 2008 (book that lists calories in common foods) Barack Obama stickers or buttons Subscription to Cooking Light (Diet inspiration!) Harry & David stuff (I like darn near anything from here; the diet can work around it!) Things that are orange. :) Gift Certificates: Barnes and No

Palin Disney Trailer

Over on College Humor's website they have a hilarious new video. It is a fake trailer of Palin's story as a Disney movie. I saw it on BoingBoing and I had to share it: See more funny videos and funny pictures at CollegeHumor .

Go Rangers!

Last night, my friend Jay was kind enough to get me a ticket to see the Rangers play at Madison Square Garden. It was a preseason game, so the team was playing all of the rookies. It was against Tampa Bay and, unfortunately, the Rangers lost, 4-2. Jay says that I may not be allowed to go to another game because I jinxed the team. She is a superstitious fan! Jay has season tickets so we were sitting amongst a group of season ticket holders. I never knew what camaraderie exists amongst these fans. They all know each other and chat throughout the game. Probably the best part of the game was the fighting. Two fights broke out in the first period, which amused me immensely. It was a bummer that we lost the game too because we out fought them in each fist fight! Finally, I am grateful that I was not hit in the head by a puck like my mom last week. Her nose was broken when a puck flew over the glass during an under-18 game. Thank goodness that she seems to be healing well.

I HAVE A JOB!

I am now employed. Granted, it is a temporary job and I will be technically employed by the agency, but I have one. The mysterious company: Bloomberg . They are creating a legal database and they want a bunch of recent graduates to go through cases. I am so happy. It is a huge company. There is a possibility of getting hired at the end of the job because they are using this project as a recruiting tool. Also, the man I interviewed with was really nice and easy to talk to. Employment never felt so great. I HAVE A JOB! YAY!

The Daily Show!

Brian, Jorge, Tanya and I went to The Daily Show with Jon Stewart last night. Outside of the long wait to get into the theater, the show was terrific. We were told to arrive at 2:30 pm. At that time there was already a long line. We didn't really get into the theater itself until around 5pm. When we got into the studio we discovered how lucky we were to get into the show: we were the last group to be able to sit together. A comedian entertained us while we waited for the show to begin. Then, Jon Stewart came out and answered questions from the audience. These included things like when Sarah Palin would be on the show and what he thought about certain recent events. I had no idea that he did that kind of Q &A. Other people were clearly prepared. The great part about the Q&A was that Jon Stewart answered questions with the same hilarity that he gives every night on the show. Watching him in person, I realized that he is one of those rare talents that is naturally th

Halloween is Coming!

My favorite holiday is coming: Halloween. The month of October is when I get to watch non-stop horror movies and decorate the apartment with as many orange things as physically and economically possible. At Walgreens Brian bought me this candy, seen left. This is the coolest candy EVER. I most likely will not eat it, since I don't like fake, cherry flavored things. However, it is already displayed in the apartment as decoration. Brian also bought me 7 mini-gourds to decorate the apartment with. I can't wait to paint them to look like zombies, vampires, ghosts and goblins. I also need to start planning what I am going to carve into a pumpkin this year. Last year I carved Boo from Super Mario Bros. This year will need to be something equal or greater in awesomeness. I have hard work ahead of me...

Update: Tomorrow's Interview

They will not tell me the name of the company before I go into the interview. I just got a phone call from the agency and I guess that the company wants to tell me themselves in the interview. He said that this was so that all of the candidates can be on a level playing field. I think it is only going to serve to make me very nervous. They also bumped up the time of my interview. Now I have plenty of time to hike ten avenue blocks west to see the Daily Show with Jon Stewart!!!! I hope I do not bomb the interview. I am the queen of getting flustered when put on the spot with questions about myself. I trip over my words and fail to finish sentences. I think I will force Brian to quiz me with questions tonight.

Brooklyn Borough Hall

Brian and I went to downtown Brooklyn the other day to the Farmer's Market and the library. I thought I would share the pictures of Brooklyn Borough Hall. It is Brooklyn's oldest building and houses the Brooklyn Borough President. It used to be the City Hall before Brooklyn was assimilated into New York City in the late 1800s. I felt that most people who come to visit me in Brooklyn do not get to see the pretty, historic portions of it. I think this area of Brooklyn is particularly beautiful. We bought veggies at the market and Brian used them to make me his fried rice with shitake mushroom. Yum.

Wedding Planning Blog Launched

Thanks to the much appreciated prodding from my sister, Vanessa, the new wedding planning blog has been launched! Brian and I will be posting all wedding related information, updates and ideas on the blog as we plan the wedding. It is very exciting. Please visit the blog at copelandglaserwedding.blogspot.com . Enjoy!

Sidebar Updated!

I was perusing my sister Vanessa's blog today and looking at the links on her sidebar. I decided to copy something I saw on the page " Not Quite What I Had Planned ." That something is the new "Books I Am Reading" and "Last Movie Watched" parts of my sidebar (look to the right). I am tired of those elements being relegated solely to my Facebook page. So, from now on you will be able to see what I am reading and what movie I last saw. Hooray!

I'm a Lazy Bum

It has been too long since I posted. This is simply because I am a lazy bum sometimes. Three exciting things have happened in the last week. First, Rock Band 2 came out last Sunday. Since there is little to no job searching on a Sunday, I spent the whole day playing that video game. It is far too much fun. We get to play new songs and can transfer all of the old music from Rock Band 1 over to the new game. I would say that the highlight is being able to sing Billy Idol's "White Wedding." Actually, as I type this, Brian is sitting next to me playing a Weezer song in the game. We are a geeky couple. The other exciting news is that I made it to the second round of interviews for that job I mentioned before! The first interview was a screening by the agency and on Tuesday I will sit in an interview with the mysterious, unnamed corporation. Supposedly, on Monday I will get an email telling me the name of the corporation. I am very intrigued by this level of secrecy.

Why Tanya Is Awesome

In case I have not informed everyone: Tanya has moved to New York! Yay! This is the Tanya I went to high school with oh so many years ago. She moved out here with her boyfriend Jorge from California to go to law school at NYU. Although we had not seen each other in 5 years we had good fun the other day eating at a French restaurant, playing scrabble, MarioKart and Wii bowling. Here is what makes Tanya awesome: she got us all tickets to The Daily Show! Later this month I am going to be able to see Jon Stewart live! I am very excited and I felt the need to share. It sure is great to have Tanya and Jorge in town.

Temp. Agency Interview!

Due to the slow job market I have been searching diligently for a job since the bar ended to no avail. So, I am turning to a relatively new development in the legal job market: the contract attorney. To get a job as a temporary or contract attorney you can either find direct listings yourself or, more commonly, go through an agency. If you go through an agency you are their employee and can get health benefits and time off through them. The jobs you get tend to have short notice and a varying duration. For instance, I was told that you could get called for a job that starts tomorrow. Also, a job could be as short as a week or could last as long as a year. These jobs don't have the job security of a normal position. Also, they tend to be dull tasks like reviewing documents on a computer screen. I have applied with two agencies now. I have an interview with one of the agencies tomorrow. This is in hopes of getting a temporary job that they advertised. The job would last for

Mouse Update!

There was another mouse in the apartment today! Brian found a live mouse on a trap and got rid of it. I am happy that the thing is gone. However, while taking the mouse outside to the trash Brian ran into a neighbor. I guess that they are having mouse problems as well. The bad part is that they have a cat and the cat can't even keep up with all of the mice! They said that they called the landlord but in my experience this does nothing. The landlord will call his exterminator. The exterminator will show up and lay down poison and traps. This is exactly what we have already done and the mice are still here! So, I bought even more poison and traps today. I am so sick of mice. Stupid mice.

Street Art

Brian and I came upon this sculpture while wandering around Williamsburg. I thought I would share. I am often taken aback by the random art on the streets around here.

Kellogg's Diner

Kellogg's Diner in Williamsburg has a new fancy look! They took down the old sign and completely rebuilt the place. It is all shiny now; like a diner in Jersey. However, it doesn't matter to me what they do to it. I will still always remember it as the place where someone was stabbed at 2 AM once. I haven't eaten there since. The food was horrible anyhow so I don't consider it a loss. FreeWilliamsburg.com called it "the absolute sh*ttiest diner in the United States of America." I agree.

Ghost Bike

I finally got around to taking a picture of the ghost bike down the street from my apartment. I pass it occasionally and I am always surprised by how lovingly someone has kept it up. A ghost bike is a bicycle that is painted all white and placed at the scene where a cyclist was killed. This ghost bike is representative of the death of Craig Murphy, who died at the age of 26 in 2007. While this memorial has been up for almost a year, the decorations on it have constantly changed. The flowers are new and different objects usually litter the sidewalk in front of the bike. Brian and I often wonder who it is that loved him so much that they have continued his memory so consistently.

The Cat

Here is another picture of the cat, Oreo. I played with the colors in this picture and I think she looks really cute. I had to share. However, I think we are making her fatter. Oops.

Flowers!

I am tired of waiting for Brian to post pictures of his garden. Also, Picasa 3, a new version of Google's free photo program, came out yesterday and I had to play with it (hence the text and bright colors). I also downloaded Gimp, which is a free program similar to Photoshop. You can expect more "shopped" photos from me in the near future as I try to get a grasp on the program. I am excited to have flowers in the backyard! Congratulations, Brian, on the garden!

NYC Waterfalls

Brian and I braved the crowds on Labor Day to see the waterfalls from the South Street Seaport. From that view all four of the waterfalls are visible. The waterfalls are only up for a couple of months and I wanted to see them before they went away. They were created by artist Olafur Eliasson. They range from 90 to 120 in height and are located in four places along the Hudson and on Governor's Island. I took pictures of each one from the deck at the seaport. This picture above is of the waterfall under the Brooklyn Bridge. This one is on Governor's Island. The waterfall above is on the Brooklyn side of the East River. This final one is just up river from the seaport. They were pretty interesting to see. They have sparked a bit of controversy here in New York, as some people are calling for them to be shut off due to the death of trees around them. I guess that the salt water is affecting the vegetation. I think they make the river more interesting, i only for a short time.
