This morning Brian and I ventured forth in the early hours to stand in another line. This time it was for tickets to Shakespeare in the Park. They are showing Hamlet right now and I love that play. They hand out a limited number of free tickets at 1:00 pm at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. Unlike yesterday at IKEA, today we arrived at 9:30 am like pros: we had lawn chairs and homework to keep us comfortable for the wait. This is a picture of Brian while we waited for tickets.
Here is the line (that we could see) waiting behind us. Brian walked to the end of it and said that it was quite long.
This is that line in front of us that was visible.
This is the Delacorte Theater, where the play is staged at 8:30 pm. The statue in front is Romeo and Juliet. I will let you know how the show was when I see it. I am very excited to see Sam Waterston playing Polonius. Brian and I have argued many times over the merits of Hamlet. It is by far my favorite Shakespeare play, only rarely overrun by my love of Macbeth. Brian did not like Hamlet when he read it and he has only seen the Mel Gibson version. I am hoping that the show tonight will help my pro-Hamlet argument.
