I am still using Grooveshark a lot but mainly I just repeat the following songs:
Goals of the Week
Last week, as you already know if you follow me on Facebook, I set a goal of using no emoticons or exclamation points unless they were entirely necessary. It was more difficult than I anticipated.
It isn't as if I insert copious amounts of exclamation points into short stories or memos. I just use them in emails and messages to friends. Nonetheless, I found it incredibly difficult to stop inundating my status updates with those marks. I felt like Lilly in Taylor Mali's poem "Like Lilly Like Wilson." To tempt me further, as if knowing my plight, some neighbor kid drew a smiley face on my door with a marker.
I did, however, make it through the week only using one exclamation point. I will continue my endeavor to express meaning through word use and not symbols in the future.
This week I am trying to stop swearing. Again, like the exclamation points, it isn't as if I do this all the time. I do, however, spit out unladylike words in certain situations. Examples of these situations include, but are not limited to, dropping a plate of cookies on the floor, being narrowly missed by an out-of-control driver when I cross the street, or when the neighbor kid vandalizes my door.
I will let you know how it goes.
I am still using Grooveshark a lot but mainly I just repeat the following songs:
- "Fight Song" by The Republic Tigers
- "Electric Feel" by MGMT
- "Rock Lobster" by The B52s
- "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane
- "Psychobilly Freakout" by Reverend Horton Heat
- "Tik Tok" by Ke$ha
I would also like to note that I just don't get the whole Justin Bieber thing. Maybe I am getting old.
Food
Brian and I are trying the chicken challenge this week. This involves trying to stretch the meat from a chicken into as many meals as possible. I kind of cheated and made two chickens at once because they were super cheap at CostCo. and this recipe from the Pioneer Woman looked too good to resist.
So far Brian and I have had 3 dinners based on the chickens. The first night was just the herbed roast chicken. The last two nights we have had chicken salad sandwiches à la Kenny Shopsin (see my previous post about his book). The chicken salad was so good that we had it again the next night.
Tonight we are having Cook's Illustrated Chicken Curry in a Hurry (recipe located at the bottom of this post). Tomorrow night, if all goes as planned we will be having chicken tortilla soup. I am amazed at how far a couple of cooked chickens can go.
